After understanding the benefits of spray pipes, how to operate spray pipes and their equipment safely is the next question we face.

Check your airless paint sprayer for any safety issues

Before setting up your airless sprayer to spray, you need to confirm that everything is in good working order. Common things to check on an airless sprayer for safe operation include any bulges or broken lines in the airless hose. You will also want to check all hose connections to make sure they are not damaged and are securely attached to the airless sprayer. Finally, goggles should be worn when using airless equipment to avoid overspray in the eyes.

Proper Airless Cleaning

Properly cleaning an airless paint sprayer depends on whether you are spraying oil-based or water-based materials. If it is oil based, you will flush with the appropriate solvent depending on the paint you are spraying, if it is water based you will only use water. You will place the pick-up tube in a suitable cleaner and the dump tube in a separate bucket.

Next, if you don’t have a switch, you’ll toggle the pump to start or open the valve until the cleaning agent flows through the pump. After cleaning the fluid section of the pump, you can switch the pump to spray. Ideally, you should remove the airless nozzle and guard with the pump turned off before starting to clean the sprayer.

The tip and guard should be placed in the cleaner. By moving away from the tip and guard, there is less pressure when spraying, preventing any bounce. Spray material through airless hose until clean material comes out of airless spray gun. Finally, if you plan to store your pump for a period of time, be sure to use pump armor to protect your pump from corrosion while in storage. Ultimately, by following the right steps when using an airless paint sprayer, you can be sure of getting great results from your airless spray.

Keep a safe distance

When using airless spray, you need to hold the gun approximately 8 – 12 inches from the target and keep the airless gun perpendicular to the surface without arching. Each pass should overlap by about 25 – 50% so that there are no gaps between each pass.
