Silicone fire sleeve is a common industrial material. It often works in high-temperature applications, such as steel factories, metallurgy, and welding. You probably know about its great fire-resistant properties. But do you know how to install it?
Here are 6 steps to install a silicone hose sleeve:
Step 1: Measure and size
First, figure out how much casing you need to cover all hoses, wires, or cables. The inner diameter (ID) of the high-temperature fire sleeve must be larger than the outer diameter of your hose or cable. This lets the sleeve slide over easily.
Step 2: Purchase the right product
Once you confirm the correct size, buy the matching quantity and dimensions.
Step 3: Cut to length
After receiving the high-temperature fire-resistant casing, you may need to cut it to the right length. Use a sharp knife or industrial scissors for this.
Step 4: Slide it on
Next, simply slide the heat-resistant fire sleeve onto the end of the pipe or cable.
Step 5: Secure with clips
To keep the connection tight, attach stainless steel belt clips or wire rope ties to both ends of the fireproof casing.
Step 6: Seal with tape
Finally, use silicone sealing tape to fully secure the fire sleeve. This prevents fluid from getting in and particles from contaminating it. Depending on your needs, some people do this step before Step 5.
